Importance of Social Welfare Groups
- Financial Assistance: One of the key functions of social welfare groups especially after death is financial assistance. Primarily, the welfare group helps in covering funeral Costs: Funerals can be expensive, and social welfare groups often contribute financially to cover the costs of burial, transportation, and other related expenses. This support is crucial in easing the financial burden on the bereaved family.
- Community Cohesion and Social Integration: The involvement of social welfare groups in post-death activities fosters a strong sense of community cohesion. By bringing people together during times of grief, these groups reinforce social ties and mutual support systems within the community.
- Promoting Unity: Social welfare groups often involve people from different social and economic backgrounds, promoting inclusivity and unity within the community, which is essential for social harmony.
- Social Protection and Welfare: In some instances, social welfare groups play a critical role in identifying and addressing the needs of vulnerable individuals and families in the aftermath of a death. This might include ensuring access to social protection programs or providing direct support to those in need.
- Reducing Poverty: By offering assistance, specifically, finances to cover burial expenses social welfare groups help reduce the risk of poverty among bereaved families, particularly those who lose their primary source of income. Families especially from low-income background often face challenges raising finances to cater for burial expenses upon loss of a loved one thus resort to sale of family assets to cover such expenses which has negative social economic implications.
- Crisis Response and Emergency Relief: In cases where death is a result of natural disasters, conflicts, or other crises, social welfare groups often provide emergency relief, including food, shelter, and medical care. This immediate response is critical for helping families cope with sudden loss and displacement.
- Rehabilitation Support: Social welfare groups may also be involved in rehabilitation efforts, helping families rebuild their lives after a crisis or significant loss.
