Exemptions are granted to candidates who have prior relevant education or professional qualifications that meet the standards of the KASNEB courses curriculum. There are exemptions at different levels available for holders of undergraduate university degrees and certification in different courses. Specifically, KASNEB grants exemptions to holders of education and professional qualifications in the following areas:

  • KASNEB professional, diploma and technician qualifications.
  • Undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from recognized universities based in Kenya
  • or outside Kenya.
  • Diploma qualifications offered by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC),
  • Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) and the Kenya School of Law (KSL).
  • Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) and Institute of Chartered
  • Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) of the United Kingdom.

Steps for Applying for Exemptions

There are a number of steps that KASNEB students when applying for examination exemption. These steps include:

  • Click on http://online.kasneb.or.ke and login to the student portal
  • Choose KASNEB Exemptions on the sidebar menu
  • Consequently, select exemption application tab on the navigation pane.
  • Review the exemption policy to inquire on the units you are eligible for exemption-thereafter you will be presented with the eligible papers.
  • Upload the relevant certificates (PDF format) and all transcripts
  • The application is approved within 24-48 hours upon uploading all the necessary documents.
  • Upon approval, an invoice is generated. Review to know the payment amount.
  • Click in the pop notification and input your M-Pesa pin to make payments
  • After successful payments you will be able to download a provisional exemption letter via E-mail

Note

  • Exemptions should ideally be submitted at the time of registration or before payment for the first examination.
  • Under the revised exemption policy, exemptions will continue to be granted on a paper-by-paper basis. Students will be granted exemptions in those papers in which they demonstrate sufficient coverage of course content in their respective qualifications.
  • Subsequent to registering with KASNEB, a student that obtains a qualification for which he/she is eligible to seek exemption(s), he/she may still apply for exemptions provided that such exemptions relate to subsequent section(s) for which the student has not attempted any of the papers.
  • An exemption granted in a particular paper will be forfeited if one subsequently enters to sit the paper.
  • A student should not apply for exemption in a particular paper if he/she has already sat the paper and failed.
