A statement issued by the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) on January 13, 2025 indicates that the institution has opened its portal for the Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examinations Board (KASNEB) Foundation loans and bursaries. The loans and bursaries assist students taking the KASNEB accounting courses by providing funds for both examination and tuition fees across the country at highly attractive interest rates and flexible repayment period. The loan and bursary scheme targets current and new KASNEB students pursuing or, interested in pursuing KASNEB courses such as Certified Public Accountants (CPA,), Certified Secretaries (CS), Certified Investment and Financial Analysts (CIFA), Certified Credit Professionals (CCP), Accounting Technicians Diploma (ATD,), and Certificate in Accounting and Management Skills (CAMS).

The KASNEB HELB Loan: All You Need to Know
- Applicants should ensure they attach a completed KASNEB student application form on the loan application form among other attachments listed on the last page of the application form. The KASNEB student application form is accessible from the KASNEB
- The loans and bursaries from HELB can be used to fund fees payable to KASNEB including registration fees, examination booking fees and annual registration renewal fees. Also, it can be used to finance exemption fees for KASNEB students transiting from Certificate/Technician. Students can also use the loans and bursaries to finance tuition in KASNEB accredited institutions such as RCM Online College.
- Eligibility: The loans and bursaries from HELB is eligible for both new and current KASNEB students.
- New students and students transiting from Certificate level to Diploma level or from Diploma level to Professional qualifications level should use their national identification numbers in place of KASNEB registration number.
- The application link is accessible through the HELB student portal on helb.co.ke .
- The applications run once annually; thus, applicants are encouraged to apply for loans sufficient to cover one full year’s examination sittings and not one semester.
- Tuition fees to be paid directly to the student’s preferred accredited training institutions offering KASNEB qualification such as public and private universities, tertiary education institutions and the Kenya School of Government campuses.
- During disbursement KASNEB students who qualify for the HELB loan will be required to pay an administrative fee of 500.
- The loan attracts an interest rate of 6 percent annually. The loan is due for repayment 3 years after date of completion of studies. The maximum repayment period is 60 months, with the option of choosing a lower repayment period.
Steps for Enrolling for the HELB KASNEB Loans
The application steps for first-time applicants are as follows:
- Register on the KASNEB Students’ Portal and get a registration number.
- Head over to https://portal.hef.co.ke/auth/signin to register, activate your account, and log in.
- Update your profile with your course details.
- Fill in your personal and parental information and upload the required documents.
- Under the Institution tab, choose ‘RCM’ for tuition and/or KASNEB fees.
- Save your profile and apply for loans and bursaries.
- Add guarantor details and submit your application.
- Confirm and track your application status via email and the HELB portal.
Note:
- Applicants can be able to track the processing status of your application on the application portal.
- Successful applicants are awarded and notified of the award.
- Funds for successful applicants are transferred to the respective institutions selected by applicants.
